How It Started
In 2011, Alex Wright wasn't a politician. He was a Peachtree Corners resident with a demanding corporate job, four kids, and an opinion about whether this stretch of Gwinnett County should become its own city.
That opinion turned into a letter to a local news site, which turned into a call from Judy Putnam, then editor of the Peachtree Corners Patch — she asked if he'd write a volunteer column making the case for incorporation. From July to December 2011, he did, as part of the "Yes" initiative pushing for the referendum that would create the City of Peachtree Corners.
The vote passed, 57-43%. A few weeks later, residents asked Alex to run for one of the city's first seven Council seats. He spent three months walking the district door to door, visiting roughly 1,500 homes. In March 2012, he won his seat in a runoff, 63-37%.
It's the only time he's had an opponent. He's run unopposed in every election since.

Four Terms, One Job

Alex has represented Post 3 since PTC's very first Council was sworn in — a founding member of the body that built a city from scratch. Fourteen years later, his approach hasn't changed much: show up, ask questions, vote the way he told people he would, and say so publicly when he thinks the Council got something wrong.
He's not chasing a title. When a Vice Mayor seat opened up in 2026, Alex didn't put his name forward — he backed a colleague instead.

Before Council: The Navy
Surface Warfare Officer, U.S. Navy (1992–1996).
Alex joined the Navy ROTC program at Georgia Tech in 1988 — one of 55 midshipmen who started that year — and commissioned as an officer in 1992. Only 18 of his original class made it to commissioning.
He went on to serve four years as a Surface Warfare Officer, with deployments to Somalia and the Persian Gulf.
Alex is also a member of the Royal Order of Shellbacks, the Navy's honorary society for sailors who've crossed the equator during an official ceremony at sea.

Family & Community Involvement
Alex and his wife, Loreen, have lived in the River Place neighborhood since 2003. They have four children — Pearson, Madlyn, Colin, and Michael — and a dog, Murphy.
Alex has spent nearly 20 years coaching youth sports in Peachtree Corners, and remains a familiar face at Little League fields, Cub Scout Pinewood Derbies, and city playgrounds.
